Adventures Of Oat Willie volume1,Pdf 37 pages. In 1968, a character from one of Gilbert Shelton’s acid comics, “Oat Willie,” was drafted to run for governor. Oat Willie lost the race but became an enduring inspiration to Austin “freaks.” Later a head shop opened under his name with the motto, “Onward Through the Fog.” Oat Willie's, Austin's venerable sixties headshop, a living monument to counterculture history in one of the true birthplaces of the sixties counterculture, recently observed its fortieth birthday with a gala celebration at Austin's Moose Lodge. Hosted by founder and proprietor Doug Brown, a wondrous gathering of vintage luminaries and geezerly ne'er-do-wells marked the occasion by downing a surfeit of Doug's spirits and juicy barbeque while hobnobbing and telling lies.
